Submission Guidelines
Some Basic Information
Copperhill Media Corporation is not a vanity publisher. We are a small print-on-demand (POD) publishing house, and we provide printing, distribution, and marketing services for our authors. Our books are listed in online stores such as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, AbeBooks.com, and more. In addition we maintain our own online bookstore.
Most importantly, our publishing services are free of charge for our authors. At no time will we ask you for payments as far as the publishing process is involved. The only exception will be when you wish to purchase copies of your book from us – the first copy is free.
Yet another important fact: All of our authors whose work we accept will own the copyright of their work. Copperhill Media will provide and own the ISBN for the work.
Manuscript Requirements
We at Copperhill Media are interested in all kinds of well written fiction and non-fiction literature. Sorry, but we do not accept poetry (due to salability issues) or children’s literature with colored interior (printing costs are high, and we cannot get a reasonable list price).
Copperhill Media is not a vanity publisher, meaning we do not accept all submissions per default. We look for style, readability, and salability of your work. We do not expect a new Hemingway, but at the same time we need to assure a good quality.
If you haven’t already done so, we strongly recommend having your work edited by a professional service. This kind of expense will be necessary even if you decide to contact a literary agent or another traditional publisher. Exceptions, to a certain degree, are non-fiction works. In any case, we are willing to help with recommendations if we see a good potential, but we are not an editing service.
We accept only manuscripts in electronic form, preferably in MS-Words. We cannot accept PDF files.
Preferred parameters are:
- MS Word format
- Page size: 8.5 x 11″ (Go with the default settings)
- Font: Times New Roman
- Font Size: 11
- Line Spacing: Single
- No special paragraph formatting
- No headers, footers, page numbers
Please make sure your work is finished; we cannot accept works in progress.
If your work has been published previously, i.e. through another publisher, please let us know. As long as you own the copyright of your work we will be able to help you.
Manuscript Submission
Submitting your manuscript (actually, an excerpt thereof), plus a little information about yourself and your work, is fairly easy.
All you have to do is to fill out our Submission Form.
The information we require is:
- Your name
- Your e-mail address
- Your website/blog address (if applicable; it’s not a deal breaker if don’t have one)
- The title of your book
- A synopsis describing your book (50 words or less)
- The first chapter of your book (up to 1,000 words)
Your information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. Under no circumstances will we share your information with any third party!
We will try to respond as soon as possible. Our usual response time is one to two weeks depending on the current workload. We do, however, answer EVERY submission, whether it was approved or not.
If we approve your manuscript, we will contact you and send you our contract. As soon as the contract is accepted and signed by both parties, we will request your full manuscript. After that, it will take less than three months to have your book published. During that time period we will update you on the progress.
Please understand that we are going through a high rate of rejections, and the reasons for rejections can be manifold, even including that we may run out of capacity and are unable to accept any new author.
We at Copperhill Media reserve the right to reject any submission for any reason we see fit. Reasons may include insufficient quality, but we also consider issues like appropriateness for our business, acceptance for the general public, and more. This being said, we definitely do not accept any works based on bigotry, excessive violence, excessive sexual content, hate material, or similar topics.
